Weather is one of the most useful types of information you can display on a screen. In places like office lobbies, retail stores, waiting areas, and other public spaces, people naturally look for quick weather updates while they wait, pass by, or spend time in the area.
For customers in the Netherlands and Belgium, Castit now includes a Buienradar Weather App, allowing you to display local weather information directly on your screens.
The app uses the Buienradar.nl API and is available directly inside the Castit CMS.
What Is Buienradar?
Buienradar is one of the most widely used weather platforms in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is known for its rain radar and short-term precipitation forecasts, helping users see when rain is expected and how intense it will be. The service combines data from multiple meteorological sources and weather stations, providing frequently updated weather information such as current conditions, temperature, and rainfall predictions. Because many people already rely on Buienradar to check the weather before leaving home, displaying this information on digital signage screens makes the content immediately familiar and useful for viewers.
Where to Find the Buienradar App in Castit
The Buienradar Weather app is available in the Apps section of the Castit CMS.
To find it:
- Log in to your Castit CMS
- Open Apps in the left-hand menu
- Browse the apps or use the search bar
Once you see the app card, click it to open the app instance window, where you can configure the app.
Creating and Managing App Instances
When you open the Buienradar app, you can create one or more app instances.
An app instance allows you to configure the same app with different settings. For example, you may want one weather display for the Netherlands and another for Belgium.
Inside the app instance window, you can:
- Open an existing instance
- Create a new app instance
- Manage settings for each instance separately
This gives you flexibility if you manage multiple screens or locations.
Configuring the Buienradar App
Once you open an app instance, you will see two main sections: Basic Settings and Buienradar Settings.
- Basic Settings
In this section, you configure:
- App name – a name that helps you recognize the app instance
- Duration – how long the app appears on screen
The default duration is 15 seconds, but you can adjust it to any length depending on your playlist setup.
- Buienradar Settings
The configuration is intentionally simple. You only need to choose the region:
- Netherlands
- Belgium
After selecting the region, click Save changes in the bottom-right corner. Your weather app is now ready to use.
Adding the Weather App to Your Screens
Once the app is configured, you can display it on screens in two ways.
1. Option 1 — Add the App to a Playlist
The most common workflow is:
- Add the Buienradar app to a Playlist
- Add the Playlist to a Screen
- Save the changes
This allows you to combine weather with other content such as announcements, images, or videos.
2. Option 2 — Add the App Directly to a Screen
You can also place the app directly on a screen layout.
To do this:
- Open Screens
- Create a new screen or edit an existing one
- Select the app from the Apps panel on the right side
- Save your changes
Finally, assign the screen to a Player (the device connected to your display). Once the player syncs, the weather content will appear live on the screen.
